According to the General Bureau of Statistics, the average income of workers in the third quarter of 2024 amounts to 7.6 million VND per month (€281), or a increase of 176,000 VND (€6.5) compared to the previous quarter and from 519,000 VND compared to the same period in 2023.
In the third quarter of 2024, the active population aged 15 and over is estimated at 52.7 million people, recording an increase of 114,000 compared to the previous quarter and 239,000 compared to last year at the same period. Over the first nine months of 2024, the active population stands at 52.5 million people, an increase of 210,000 compared to the previous year.
The number of workers employed in the third quarter of 2024 is estimated at 51.6 million, marking an increase of 115,000 people compared to the previous quarter and of 245,000 compared to the same period in 2023. Over the first nine months of the he year, around 51.4 million people were employed, an increase of 212,000 compared to the same period last year.
Underemployment and falling unemployment
The underemployment rate among the working-age population in the third quarter was 1.87%, down 0.19 points compared to the previous quarter and the same period last year. The underemployment rate in urban areas stands at 1.28% compared to 2.46% in rural areas.
THE unemployment rate among people of working age is 2.24 %. In the working age group, this rate rises to 2.26%, with a notable difference between urban (2.55%) and rural (2.07%) areas.
Living conditions and social security
The report from the General Bureau of Statistics also highlights that the living conditions of the population remained stable in the third quarter, with 33.1% of households seeing their income increase.
Furthermore, sustained efforts have been made to strengthen social security at all levels. Over the past nine months, local and central authorities, as well as various organizations, unions and philanthropists, have distributed aid worth a total of VND 19.6 trillion, in the form of visits, encouragement and donations aimed at to vulnerable populations. More than 26.6 million health insurance cards and free care booklets have also been issued.
