A brief introduction about God’s Eye Mountain
Mat Than Mountain (God’s Eye Mountains in French) is located in the hamlet of Ban Danh, Quoc Toan commune, Tra Linh district, Cao Bang province. This place is also known by a more rustic name, which is Tung Mountain.
The reason for its name is that at the top of the mountain there is a cave more than 50 m in diameter that resembles an eye.
Personally, I call it Cao Bang’s Eye of Sauron (reference to Lord of the Rings)
This place is located in the Thang Hen Lake Complex of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark. Therefore, you can combine 3 sites of Mat Than Mountain, Thang Hen Lake and Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark into the Cao Bang tour itinerary.
How to Get to God’s Eye Mountain
Mat Than Mountain is located about 32 km from the center of Cao Bang town, which equates to about 50 minutes of travel time.
According to my travel experience, you should go to Mat Than Mountain by motorbike for convenience.
You can type Nui Mat Than Cao Bang into Google Maps and follow the route.
From the center of Cao Bang town, you follow provincial road 205 towards Tra Linh district. Then you turn into Quang Vinh – Luu Ngoc commune and continue for about 4 km to Thang Hen Lake.
From Thang Hen Lake, you park your motorbike and walk about 1km to get there.
