Cold Bear Coffee in Hanoi | an unusual cafe where you order through a wall

In the old quarter of Hanoi, an atypical boutique is causing a sensation: Cold Bear Coffee, a café where you order and receive your drink through a simple hole in the wall. Designed and inspired by concepts from Japan and the Philippines, this café has won over locals and tourists thanks to its original approach and its ecological commitment.

An original concept in Vietnam

Unlike traditional cafes, Cold Bear Coffee does not own no counter or reception area. Instead, two holes drilled in a stone wall allow customers to place an order and receive their drink without direct interaction with staff.

How does it work?

1. Customers choose their drink on a screen fixed to the wall.

2. They pay via a QR code or by inserting cash in a slot provided for this purpose.

3. One bear paw shaped hand comes out of the wall to serve order and interact with customers, in their offering a flower or taking a photo with them.

A concept that particularly appeals to young people and travelers, curious to live an experience original and fun !

An idea inspired by Japan and adapted to Hanoi

Nguyen Thanh Huyen, owner of the café, explains that she discovered this concept abroad and wanted to adapt it to Vietnamese culture. Inspired by the “Hole in the Wall” cafes in Japan, but also by the drive thru where customers order from their cars, she worked with her husband to create a version unique to Hanoi.

Since its opening, Cold Bear Coffee attracts more than 70 customers per day, all intrigued by this giant bear paw sticking out of the wall.

“We put a lot of effort into the design of the wall, the selection of drinks and even the making of the bear paw, which was sent from the United States and modified several times to achieve the perfect result.”Nguyen Thanh Huyen

A café committed to the environment

Beyond its fun concept, Cold Bear Coffee wants to raise awareness about environmental protection.

Eco-friendly commitment :

All containers are made of glass or recycled paper to avoid plastic.

Customers get a 15% discount if they return with their glass cup.

Huyen admits, however, that this commitment comes at a cost: glass cups imported from China are expensive, difficult to store, and fragile during transport. Despite these challenges, she remains determined to avoid plastic and promote responsible consumption.
