Best Times for Hon Khoi
You must arrive at the Hon Khoi salt fields very early.
Around 3 a.m., while standing in the salt fields, you will see flashes of flashlights gradually coming from far away, and then gathering in the salt fields that need to be harvested. The men rake the salt then build the pile, the women are responsible for collecting and bringing the salt to the shore.
When the orange-red sunlight gradually illuminates the horizon, the shadows of the salt workers falling on the water still encroach on the fields, creating vivid scenes. Around 7 a.m., all the work gradually ended.
The afternoon session will start around 3 p.m. the same day until the evening to avoid the intense sun of the day.
Best times for Hon Khoi
The best time to visit the Hon Khoi salt fields is between JJanuary and June, because the summer climate (temperatures up to 40°C) ensures that salt from the sea will be transported to the fields. The salt will then evaporate for about 10 days before being salted.
And stored in two farmer’s baskets weighing up to 10 kg. They have to transport the salt to the salt collection location. It’s hard work, over and over again, but it’s just enough to make a living each day.
