Investigation launched after a foreign tourist was threatened on Nha Trang beach
Local authorities have opened an investigation following the circulation of a video showing a foreign tourist being threatened with assault on Nha Trang beach. The People’s Committee of Nha Trang Ward has instructed the ward police to clarify the incident.
According to information released on the afternoon of January 4, the ward police have been tasked with identifying those involved and determining the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, which took place in a busy public area.
A video widely shared on social media
The video, approximately one minute and thirty seconds long and shared on Facebook, shows a confrontation between a group of Vietnamese men and foreign tourists in the park along Nha Trang beach.

In the footage, two foreign tourists are seen standing on a walkway in the seaside park, talking with a group of individuals wearing blue shirts, believed to be uniforms of a tourism service establishment. The situation escalates when one person from the group grabs a shovel and rushes toward the tourists, threatening to hit them. At the time, the area was crowded with both locals and tourists, many of whom stopped to watch and record the scene.
Shortly afterward, another person wearing a blue shirt is seen threatening a tourist with a white plastic chair, causing the tourist to panic and flee. Several tourists nearby appear visibly frightened by what was happening.
Authorities promise clarification
Local officials stated that an investigation is underway to establish responsibility and take appropriate measures in accordance with the law. At this stage, authorities have not disclosed whether any arrests or sanctions have been made.
A major tourism destination in Vietnam
Located in Khánh Hòa Province, Nha Trang has long been a popular destination for international travelers. The city is renowned for its stunning bay—often considered one of the most beautiful in the world—its fine white-sand beaches, clear blue waters, mild climate, and the friendliness of its residents.
By 2025, Nha Trang is expected to welcome around 14.8 million overnight visitors, including approximately 4.6 million international tourists and 10.2 million domestic visitors. Total tourism revenue is estimated at 60,318.9 billion VND, highlighting the sector’s importance to the local economy.
Local authorities emphasized that visitor safety remains a top priority and that any behavior damaging the destination’s image will be dealt with strictly.
