Robots prepare and serve coffee at a cafe in Hanoi
Twitter Beans Coffee, located at 5 Vu Pham Ham Street, Hanoi, has introduced four types of robots to serve customers and offer them exciting and new experiences. This establishment is the first café in the city fully operated by robots. The ambitious initiative aims to bring technology closer to everyday life while offering visitors a modern and interactive experience.
A Unique Service Model with Four Intelligent Robots
At this venue, four smart robots have been deployed to perform different tasks autonomously and efficiently:
- Tu, the barista robot, is responsible for preparing various drinks, including drip coffee, salted coffee, and milk tea. Thanks to a standardized recipe, it ensures consistent flavor and quick preparation, typically between 2.5 to 3.5 minutes per drink.
- The serving robot handles table service. Once the staff places drinks on its tray, it automatically navigates to the customer’s table. Equipped with voice interaction capabilities, it can also engage in short conversations.
- Thu, the calligraphy robot, adds a cultural touch to the experience. It can create custom inscriptions and calligraphy on request, blending modernity with Vietnamese tradition.
- Chi, the mobile photographer robot, captures memorable moments by taking photos of guests during their visit.
Technology at the Service of Experience
Integrating robots into the café space required careful programming. Every movement — from holding a spoon to pouring ice or hot water — is precisely calibrated to ensure safety and efficiency. The robots’ movement paths are also carefully designed to blend naturally into the environment and avoid disturbing customers.
Visitors can choose their preferred service method. They can either be served by traditional staff or opt for the robot experience at a dedicated counter.
A Pilot Project with Strong Ambitions
The robot server model has been tested at this single café since April 21. Designed and programmed by a Vietnamese company, the robots are customized to meet real-world operational needs.
According to Ms. Lam Kieu Oanh, CEO of Twitter Bean Coffee, the introduction of robots is not just about following trends. The goal is to create a meaningful intersection between humans, machines, and culture.
“We want every cup of coffee to not only taste good but also have a story and offer a special experience,” Ms. Oanh emphasized.
However, integrating technology into daily life does come with challenges. Ms. Oanh points out:
“The biggest difficulty is not the technology itself, but making it naturally part of life without losing the emotional essence of the coffee experience.”
Looking Ahead: Expansion Plans
Introducing robots in this pilot café reflects a desire to offer a practical and immersive experience, while maintaining the human touch. The Twitter Beans Coffee team views robots as technological collaborators who support human staff in enhancing service quality.
Depending on customer feedback and the model’s performance, the company plans to expand the concept to other strategic locations such as:
- Technology parks
- Universities
- Creative spaces
The objective is clear: to provide a unique experience that combines technological innovation, user comfort, and respect for local culture.
